How to pick
Count rooms, not boxes. A one-bedroom apartment fits a 10x10. A two-bedroom home fits a 10x15. A three-bedroom home, stacked properly, fits a 10x20. If you're storing a car, start at 10x20.
If you're between two sizes, take the smaller one and stack to the ceiling. Units are eight feet tall and that height is free. You can always move up if it doesn't fit; the first month's rent transfers.
Rules of thumb
How to not pay for air
Stack to the ceiling
Boxes of the same size, heavy ones at the bottom. Eight feet of height is included.
Stand mattresses on edge
In a bag, against the wall. They take almost no floor.
Take furniture apart
Bed frames and table legs come off. Keep the screws in a bag taped to the piece.
Leave an aisle
A foot of walkway down the middle means you can reach the back without unloading the front.
Drive-up or climate-controlled?
Drive-up units are cheaper and you can back a truck to the door. They're dry but not heated, which is fine for tools, bikes, patio furniture, plastic totes and most boxes.
Climate-controlled units cost about $30 more a month and hold a steady temperature. Choose them for wood furniture, electronics, photos, paper, instruments, mattresses and leather, or for anything you'd keep for more than a season.

Size and price questions
Are prices really month to month?+
Yes. No lease, no deposit. Give ten days' notice when you're done and the last month is prorated.
What if I pick the wrong size?+
Move up or down within the first month and we transfer the rent you've paid. After that, it's a normal move between units with no fee.
Do prices go up?+
The price you sign at holds for the first year. After that, increases are small and come with sixty days' notice.
Is there a fee to reserve?+
No. A reservation holds the unit for seven days at no charge.
